Day 2- again!

So today was day 2 of my 84-day challenge. The eating was fine. I woke up and had a cottage cheese/yogurt mix, which happens to be one of my favorites. I added blueberries in for Sophia and she couldn't have been happier. I had a string cheese/ apple snack and then made wonderful tuna wraps for lunch. Pasquale enjoyed a second one they were so good. Then, for lack of imagination at the time, I had another string cheese but this time I paired it with a peach. So good! Then I grilled chicken breasts, roasted red potatoes and had fresh broccoli steamed for dinner. I plan on eating the other half of Sophia's cantaloupe with cottage cheese for dessert later. So all-in-all it was a good day with regards to eating.

Now let's talk a little about the exercising for today. I had to do weight lifting for today's exercise and I chose to do upper body first. I thought, "Hey, I lift kids all day long and carry around that ridiculously heavy and cumbersome car seat everywhere. I think I'm pretty strong." NOPE! I couldn't have been farther from the truth. I didn't even get through all of my sets for each muscle group. I am supposed to start at a low weight that gives me about a 5 of 10 intensity level. Then I lift 12 reps. I wait a minute and up to a 6 intensity and only do 10. Wait a minute and then do a 7 for 8 reps. And so on. I couldn't add anymore weight on after only 2 sets for most of the exercises. I guess I really do need to start on the little 5 pound weights.

I am supposed to be using the free weights, but I really don't feel comfortable going to no-woman's land in that area of the gym yet. At least, not unless Pasquale is with me. So I used the machines. They don't have really small weights on the machines. At least not the ones I found. None of the shoulder presses went down to 2 pounds. It felt like that's where I should have started. Maybe I'll go buy a set of small pink weights like my mom has and start with the weight lifting at home until I can work up to the larger weights. Or maybe I'll just grow a pair and use the free weights the gym provides- seeing as how I pay $110 a month to frequent this place of pain.

I am not looking forward to the pain I'm going to be feeling tomorrow, especially in my shoulders and biceps. But I am looking forward to doing cardio. It's not easier than weights, but it certainly is more convenient- and shorter. I can get a great workout in, read a book while I'm doing it, and still have time to sit in the steam room, take a cold shower and get dressed before I have to get the kids.

Oh, and I forgot to mention today's weigh-in. My lowest yet on this particular part of my journey: 231.4. Hooray for small victories!
